Born in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, 1957
Bechara attended the School of Fine Arts In Parque Lage, Rio de Janeiro from 1987 to 1991. Both gritty and philosophical, Bechara's work is as commonplace as a path to the contemplation of time and extinction. Though his "paintings" are technically works on canvas, Bechara utilizes the canvas covering from trucks, layering steel wool upon them and rushing the whole by wetting them in a process that takes up to several months. The metallic material is often in varying stages of decomposition, the surfaces rough, cracked d discolored. His art is a tangible illustration not only of the ephermeral nature of life, of its inevitable change and decompositon, but also of its partnership with time. Together, life and time degrade the original state of most objects. Bechara also leaves the marks ofdaily wear and tear upon the canvas, reinforcing the link between pure aesthetics and implicatons of content upon our daily lives. He has participated in group exhibitions in Germany, France, London and Korea and in solo exhibitions throughout Brazil.
Bechara's work is in permanent museum collections including: Rio de Janeiro Museum of Modern de Art, Brazil; Niteroi Contemporary Art Museum, Joao Satamine, Brazil; Para Contemporary Art Museum, Brazil; California Contempoary Art Museum; Bahia Museum of Modern de Art, Brazil; Culturgest, Lisboa, Portugal.
Bechara is represented exclusive in Arizona by the Latin American Art Gallery, Scottsdale. |
